CAV: AEC Chieftain

During the recent CAV:SO II Kickstarter, I was inspired to paint up a couple of the CAV figures from the first KS.  For the longest time I couldn't think of a color scheme, but then inspiration struck and I had to get these completed:  72232 AEC Chieftain.

Reaper Bones: Town Guard

As you may have seen in my recent post about Frostgrave, I had a few Bones figures that haven't previously been detailed.  These are 92839-92842 Town Guard from the Bones II Expansion #2.

Frostgrave: My First Warband

A couple weeks ago I had my first opportunity to play Frostgrave, a fantasy skirmish wargame that I've been looking to get into for several months.  I had heard positive things about it, and my new FLGS has a league running biweekly games.  As you can see, I was able to use several of the Reaper Bones figures I've painted over the past few years to fill out the warband nicely!

Reaper Bones: G.IMEF Joes (Bones II)

When I first got my Bones I shipment, the IMEF figures were among the first ones I painted.  Apparently this predated my resurgent blogging, as I never posted them!  With Bones II Expansion #3, four additional IMEF figures joined the Bones line; now, they join the ranks of my G.IMEF Joes!

(L to R) Low-Light, Max, Spearhead, Lifeline, and Sci-Fi

Reaper Bones: Cereal Monsters

I can't say for certain when the inspiration struck, but with the release of 77282 Vampire in the Bones II Lords of Darkness set, I realized that the Bones range had sufficient models for the General Mills "cereal monsters".

Boo Berry, Count Chocula, Fruity Yummy Mummy, and Frankenberry

Read on for details on each of the figures!

Reaper Bones: Nova Corp Squad

Before tackling more of Dungeon Saga, I thought I'd clear out a few more Bones minis.  I had a concept in mind for the Nova Corp figures for quite some time now, so I decided to get them painted (plus it gave me a bit of sci-fi to change up the spate of fantasy minis I've been working on).  So here's the complete 80010-80015 Nova Corp Squad:

Reaper Bones: Hellakin Gorecutter, Halfling Rogue

While my efforts to complete the Dungeon Saga figures, I wanted to switch gears a bit and give myself a change of pace.  Looking at my remaining figures from Bones I, I grabbed on from the Half-Size Heroes set:  77165 Hellakin Gorecutter, Halfling Rogue

Reaper Dark Heaven: Thunderworm

Unfortunately my painting has massively slowed down due to real life, but I'm still trying to make progress where I can.  This past weekend I finished up a piece for my Abyssal Dwarf army in Kings of War:  03147 Thunderworm.

Reaper Bones: Rex, Dark Future Hero

I'm back, and with another of the figures from the Bones I Chronoscope set complete:  80009 Rex, Dark Future Hero.

Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Reaper Dark Heaven: Garzuhl, Mantis Man Ranger

On a whim, I decided to pull out one of the newer metal figures I purchased from Reaper and get it painted up:  03580 Garzuhl, Mantis Man Ranger from the Dark Heaven Legends line.

6MMRPC Midway Report

Copying the idea of a "midway report" for the 6MMRPC from Richard Barnes' Flames of Nerd blog, I wanted to provide a quick recap of the progress made during the last three months.  Granted, the halfway point was technically at the beginning of September, but I did get a late start on the 6MMRPC so it sort of works out.

Here is my current progress on my 6MMRPC Hit List:

  1. (2) Troops of Abyssal Dwarf Slave Orcs (Kings of War) - completed
  2. (5) Security Forces squad (Salvage Crew) - completed
  3. (2) Orcs and (9) Goblins (Reaper Bones) - completed
  4. Demon Marbrezuk (Reaper Dark Heaven) - completed
  5. Deathsleet or Ebonwrath (Reaper Bones) - Deathsleet completed
  6. (3) Doctrine Novitiates (Relic Knights) - completed
  7. (6) Salvage Crew freelancers (Salvage Crew) - completed
  8. (4) Pirates (Reaper Bones) - completed
  9. (8) Edofleini core set (Counterblast) - currently being prepped
  10. (7) Robots and Drones (Counterblast) - no progress
  11. (9) Robots and Drones (Salvage Crew) - no progress
As you can see, I've pretty much been moving in order down my list.  When I first drafted my 6MMRPC Hit List in June, I tried to mix up genres, game systems, and even material (plastic vs. metal) between my targets.  I think that was definitely a good call, as it's kept the challenge fresh and avoided potential burnout on any one thing.  That's definitely something I would recommend to any 6MMRPC participants who might have lost steam partway through.

As you can see, in addition to my "official" targets I've also completed a variety of other figures.  I'm still looking to finish the Bones I Vampire Set and earn the "Vampire Slayer" accolade (however unofficial it may be!).  I'm also really excited about Kings of War, and that's inspired me to dig out and repurpose some old Warhammer Fantasy models that have been lying in storage for years now.

For the less-than-great news:  I've totally lost track of Jokers.  Unfortunately, because I've been painting such an erratic selection of miniatures, it's hard to determine how many Jokers I've legitimately earned.  Also, my aforementioned excitement for Kings of War has resulted in a few eBay purchases to round out potential units (but by more than just a couple of figures, so they don't fall under that exemption on purchases).  And that's not including spending on the Bones III Kickstarter (um... let's not talk about that).

In conclusion, I think I'm doing very well in terms of painting existing figures.  I expect to complete my 6MMRPC Hit List by the end of the challenge, as long as I don't get too distracted by other projects along the way.  However, in terms of new purchases I've probably deviated and need to rein that in.  Still, the "mountain of metal (and plastic)" is slowly diminishing!

Reaper Bones: Mariel Twinspar, Female Pirate

The fourth and final figure in the Bones I Pirates set and the final figure in my 6MMRPC Seventh Target:  77135 Mariel Twinspar, Female Pirate.

Reaper Bones: Hajad, Pirate

With the resounding success of my last pirate, I chose what I judged to be the easier of the two remaining figures in the Bones I Pirates set for my next one:  77134 Hajad, Pirate.

Reaper Bones: Gruff Grimecleaver, Dwarf Pirate

With the elf pirate out of the way, I decided the dwarf pirate had to come next.  The second of four figures in the Bones I Pirates set is 77133 Gruff Grimecleaver, Dwarf Pirate.

Reaper Bones: Finaela, Female Pirate

For the first of four figures in the Bones I Pirates set, I dove right in with 77131 Finaela, Female Pirate.

Reaper Chronoscope: Zonkers, Killer Klown

As a change of pace from the recent sprint through the Salvage Crew figures and my Slave Orc Gore Riders, I decided to dig out one of my metal Reaper miniatures:  50247 Zonkers, Killer Klown.
