First Look: There were two elements to this model that I was interested in tackling. The first was the glowing crystals, and the second was the pictographs. Since I haven't yet painted any of the trolls from the Mistmourn Coast Warband, this model would also serve as a trial for some of the common colors to be use between the group.
Painting: The stone was painted a dark green, with a sea green highlight. The pictographs were painted a very dark green, thinned more than usually to make it easier to cover the small features like arms & legs. The bones were painted a khaki color and given a brown wash for shadowing. The candle was painted an off-white for contrast. The candle flame and crystals used a variety of red, orange, and yellow with a blend, with a very light yellow used for the crystal highlights.
Conclusion: It took a couple of tries on the crystals before I figured out what I wanted to do, but I'm really happy with the final outcome. The addition of the edge highlights made a huge difference in the appearance. I'm pretty happy with the "glow" effect as well, both with the crystals themselves as well as the reflective lighting on the stone. One area that needs more work is tightening up the edge highlights; a few of the lines wound up "fatter" than they should be.
