Reaper Bones: Mortar, Gargoyle

For a change of pace, I decided to complete one of the pre-Bones I figures:  77028 Mortar, Gargoyle.

First Look:  This is a solid figure, both in design and casting.  The wings do a great job of retaining their correct position, and the crouching pose gives the figure a dynamic feel.  Cleanup was moderate, though one of the claws on the left hand was slightly miscast and required some trimming to make it less noticeable.

Painting:  I decided to set two goals when starting this figure; the first was to paint the figure entirely with grays, and the second was to differentiate the stones on the base so they didn't blend into the figure.  The three grays (VGC Cold Grey, Sombre Grey, and Wolf Grey) were mixed in various amounts in the body, and a medium brown (VGC Earth) was added to the base along with the grays to create a grayish-brown tone.

Conclusion:  The figure turned out nicely, and I feel that I strongly met both goals.  I was able to create enough variety with the various shades of gray to keep the figure interesting.  Also, the browns really help the base from blending into the body.
